Oxygen meters were used to take the readings in the center
of the compartment and in all four comers. This procedure was
repeated on all levels of multi-level spaces. Oxygen levels
below 16% and above 21% were considered dangerous to life and
health. Safe oxygen levels were between 16 and 21%, and later 16
and 22%. The highest and lowest readings were reported to the
scene leader. Spaces that were oxygen deficient or enriched had
to be further ventilated with an air driven or red devil blower
and retested until all readings were found safe. |
