WORLD WAR II DAMAGE REPORTS

There were 66 individual bound World War II Damage Reports produced by BUSHIPS.  The War Damage Reports classification was cancelled by authority of OPNAVINST S5513.16 on 12 September 1994.  There were also additional damage reports produced during the time from 1941 through 1946

Background.  These reports were produced to capture the story when a ship sustained battle damage or any other type of mishap occurred (e.g., collision, running aground, explosion, fire, heavy weather damage). The descriptive report  included  text, pictures and sketches telling of the damage sustained , information uncovered during inspections and a damage assessment  of the affected space(s).
