Sprinkler Systems

Sprinkler Systems were installed in magazines, gun turrets, gun turrent ammo handling spaces and spaces where inflammable materials are stowed, and in some ships aircraft hangars. Water for these systems is piped from the firemain. The system was not automatic, except for magazine sprinkler systems, which was heat activated. All the valves must be operated by hand. In mose cases however, the could be operated at remote distance by reach rods installed to the vlave wheels, or electric, hydraylic or pneumatic controls. Weekly tests were conducted on all asystems using a test casting and test valve.
