Fire Plugs |
Shipboard Fire plugs are attached to the ships
firemain. Water is supplied by the ships fire pumps
draws water from the sea through sea chests (openings on
the bottom and sides of the ship. Fire plugs are located
throughout the ship on all complete decks and the
engineering spaces. Fire plug can be stand alone but
normally it supplies a fire station consisitng on fire
hoses, nozzles, a marine strainer and wye gate. Fire
plugs are provided in a varity of sizes from one and
half inch to three and one half inch. The flow of water can also be reversed using a fire plug to supply firefighting water to to the ship from out side sources such as portable pumps and shore firemain. Fire plugs are also utilized to supply water to portable non-mechanical de-watering devices such as the peri-jet or S type eductor. |
