Firefighting Equipment Fire Hose (Various) |
|
The Navy standard hose for firefighting topside since the 1940s has been the 2 ½-inch by 50-foot cotton and nylon hose line. It is a required outfitting for topside fire stations. Besides being connected to fire plugs, the fire hose can be connected to the 2 ½-inch outlet on P-500 and P-250 pumps. Using a wye-gate, the hose run can be extended with two 1 ½-inch hose lines, with an all purpose nozzle (APN) attached at the end. An APN with a 4- or 10-foot applicator inserted is attached for specific functions and requirements in firefighting. An in-line eductor can be attached with an NPU in the hose line, with a mechanical foam nozzle attached if required, for an oil or fuel oil fire. While the 2 ½-inch hose line could be run for use below decks, the Navy standard hose for firefighting below decks is the 1 ½-inch by 50-foot cotton hose line and is a required outfitting for all below deck fire stations. Some locations below decks have a 1 ½-inch fireplug; in those installations, the 1 ½-inch hose is connected directly to the fireplug. |
