Overboard Discharge Connection

On most ships there were normally overboard discharge connections installed on the damage control deck. The sole purpose of those connections was to facilitate dewatering. They were 2 ½-inch capped connections that directed discharge water directly overboard; these connections allowed Sailors to connect the discharge hose of portable dewatering pumps and reduced the static head, eliminating the need for additional dewatering hoses.
