One of the unique bulkhead-mounted tools was the special
universal wrench. It was shaped like a cross with multiple
attachments and was used for access and setting material
conditions of readiness. It consisted of the following:
- Body - 1-inch iron pipe. The pipe was left open at both
ends for drop bolts.
- 2 ½-inch hose spanner
- 1 ½-inch hose spanner
- Socket - for nuts on hatches
- Socket - to fit hatch nuts not covered by the above
socket
- Socket - to fit nut on escape scuttle handwheel
- Lug - to fit sockets on flush deck sockets or remote
control gears
- Lug - to fit sockets on deck drains in heads and
washrooms
- Spade - for flush deck armored hatches
