The below information updates the fleet of the recent changes to the SEED unit repair and overhaul maintenance. The overhaul maintenance and repair will no longer be accomplished by the fleet facilities; it will be done at SSI (manufacturer).

Reference Message:

NAVSURFWARCEN COASTSYSTA PANAMA CITY/R 171549Z Nov 03 ZYB

Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City, Dahlgren Division, the In Service Engineering Agent (ISEA) for the SEED, requested NAVICP-M to back transfer the SEED, classify it as a 7H repairable item, and put a support contract in place for the repair and re-certification of the unit.

Submersible System, Inc. (SSI) of Huntington Beach, Ca, has been awarded a support contract to repair and re-certify the SEEDs.

Navy units are directed to turn in all outdated or defective SEEDs to their fleet industrial supply centers, as following the same process as any other depot level repairable, and with a requisition for the required number of replacements. Applicable NSN is 7H 4240-01-387-2069. They will be given credit for the carcasses turned in and issued replacements.

Due to the re-classification all levels of repair and overhaul maintenance of the SEED unit will be performed by SSI.
