Breathing Apparatus
Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (OBA), Type A-4
The OBA is a self contained, closed circuit device which generates oxygen and allows the wearer to breathe independently of the outside atmosphere. It is used primarily in firefighting applications. Oxygen is generated by chemicals contained in the green canister, which is inserted at the base of the breathing device. The OBA depicted (Type A-4) consists of a body harness and pad, facepiece, valve assembly, breathing tubes, breathing tube couplings, a plunger, a breathing bag, a pressure relief valve and pull tab, a bail assembly handle in standby position, a breastplate, a timer, a waist strap, a canister and a canister release strap.
