OBA TYPE 2 CANISTER

Oxygen Breathing Apparatus (OBA), Type A-2

Navy Oxygen Breathing Apparatus Patrol and Type A-2 canister

Type A-2 canister did not have the “quick-start” candle on the bottom like newer canisters. To start the flow of chemically generated oxygen, the wearer would break the seal on the face mask, inhale, and then blow out into the facepiece. This was repeated several times to force air into the breathing bags and into the canister, losing carbon dioxide, and gathering in oxygen as it does so. This canister would provide the wearer with one (1) hour continuously of oxygen..
