USS WILL ROGERS (SSBN 659), Collision, 3 January 1989 |
On January 3, 1989, the Benjamin Franklin class nuclear submarine, USS Will Rogers (SSBN 659) collided with the British fishing trawler New Dawn as the submarine was surfacing in the Firth of Clyde off the coast of Scotland. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported but the fishing vessel sustained major hull damage. |
