USS REEVES (CG 24), Accidental Bomb by F/A-18, 30 October 1989 |

USS REEVES On October 30, 1989, an F/A-18 from the aircraft carrier USS Midway (CV 41) mistakenly dropped a 500lb bomb on the USS Reeves (CG 24) while conducting training exercises in the Indian Ocean. The bomb caused a 5 foot hole in the bow and sparked numerous small fires onboard the cruiser. There were no personnel casualties but five injuries reported as a result of the accidental bombing. |
