USS NORFOLK (SSN 714) and USS SAN DIEGO (AFS 6), Collision, 17 January 1989 |
On January 17, 1989, the Los Angeles class submarine (SSN 714) collided with the Mars class combat stores ship USS San Diego (AFS 6) on the surface near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel as both ships were transiting out to sea. There was only minor damage and no personnel casualties or injuries reported. |
