USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67) and USS BORDELON (DD 881), Collision, 14 September 1976 On September 14, 1976, the Gearing class destroyer, USS Bordelon (DD 881) collided with the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67) when the destroyer suffered from steering difficulties while conducting underway refueling operations northwest of Scapa Flow, Scotland. The collision injured six crewmembers, caused topside damage onboard the USS Bordelon (DD 881) and only minor damage onboard the carrier. |
