In August 1989, the Los Angeles class submarine, USS Houston (SSN 713) suffered a small fire while operating in the Pacific Ocean. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported. USS HOUSTON (SSN 713), Flooding, July 1989 In July 1989, the Los Angeles class submarine, USS Houston (SSN 713) experienced a flooding incident while conducting operations in the Pacific Ocean. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported, but the incident resulted in eight crewmembers being reassigned due to psychological reasons. USS HOUSTON (SSN 713), Fishing Net Accident, 16 June 1989 On June 16, 1989, the Los Angeles class submarine, USS Houston (SSN 713) became entangled in a net from the fishing boat Fortuna while en-route to San Diego after participating in the filming of “The Hunt for Red October”. There were no personnel casualties or injuries but damage to the Fortuna’s fishing net was estimated at $2,000. USS HOUSTON (SSN 713), Sinking of Tugboat, 14 June 1989 On June 14, 1989, the Los Angeles class submarine, USS Houston (SSN 713) snagged a tow cable on the tug Barcona in the San Pedro Channel off of Santa Catalina Island, CA. The tug was pulled under and sank in 2,400 feet of water 10 miles southwest of Long Beach. There was one casualty onboard the tug Barcona. |
