USS GUADALCANAL (LPH 7), Collision, 25 May 1993 USS GUADALCANAL (LPH 7), Collision, 24 September 1981 On September 24, 1981, the Iwo Jima class amphibious assault ship, USS Guadalcanal (LPH 7) collided with the fleet oiler USNS Waccamaw (T-AO 109) while conducting underway replenishment operations south of Sardinia, Italy. There was only minor damage to both ships and no personnel casualties or injuries reported. |
