USS GREENEVILLE (SSN 772), Collision, 9 February 2001 On February 9, 2001, the Los Angeles class submarine, USS Greeneville (SSN 772) collided with the Japanese fishing boat Ehime Maru off the coast of Hawaii while conducting emergency surfacing drills. The collision resulted in the sinking of the fishing boat and the deaths of nine Japanese.
