USS DEYO (DD 989) and USNS GILLILAND (T-AKR 298), Collision, June 1996 |
In June 1996, the Gordon class MSC ship, USNS Gilliland (T-AKR 298) collided with the Spruance class destroyer USS Deyo (DD 989) when it broke loose from the pier at Newport News Shipbuilding, VA. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported. USS DEYO (DD 989), #3 GTG Fire, August 1991 USS DEYO (DD 989), Fire, 1990 The Spruance class destroyer, USS Deyo (DD 989), suffered a fire in the #3 waste heat boiler room. Exhaust gas leaking from the boiler casing melted the fuel oil head tank sight glass causing fuel to spill onto the deck and ignite. There were no casualties or injuries reported as a result. |
