USS DETROIT (AOE 4), Explosion, 12 December 1973 On December 12, 1973, the Sacramento class fast combat support ship, USS Detroit (AOE 4) suffered an explosion that ripped through the stacks of the after engine room while in port Newport, RI for maintenance and repair. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported. |
