USS BELLEAU WOOD (LHA 3), Accidental Discharge of Firefighting Foam, 18 January 1989 |
| On January 18, 1989, the Tarawa class amphibious assault ship, USS Belleau Wood (LHA 3) accidentally discharges a firefighting foam system during routine maintenance while on a six-month deployment in the mid-Pacific Ocean. There were no casualties but 6 crewmembers were injured as a result. |
