USS AMERICA (CV 66), Explosion, 11 March 1994 USS AMERICA (CV 66), Steam Line Bursts, August 1990 USS AMERICA (CV 66), Explosion/Fire, 13 May 1989 On May 13, 1989, the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carrier, USS America (CV 66) experienced a fire in the pump room while en-route to the Mediterranean for a six-month deployment. There were two casualties reported as a result of the fire. USS AMERICA (CV 66), Flight Deck Fire, 15 June 1984 On June 15, 1984, an F-14 jet crashed onto the flight deck of the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carrier USS America (CV 66) while operating in the Indian Ocean. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported. USS AMERICA (CV 66) and USS CALOOSAHATCHEE (AO 98), Collision, 3 December 1980 On December 3, 1980, the Kitty Hawk class aircraft carrier, USS America (CV 66) and the Cimarron class oiler USS Caloosahatchee (AO 98) collide when the oiler loses rudder control during an underway replenishment off the coast of South Carolina. There were no personnel casualties or injuries reported. |
