PORTABLE SUBMERSIBLE PUMP

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

Care should be taken that the pump is rotating in the proper direction as indicated by the arrow on the pump casting.

A.C. PUMPS

The motor terminal and switch cable connections are such that when the black, white and red cable conductors are connected to the A, B, and C phases respectively of the ships service, the pump rotation should be correct. The green conductor is the ground conductor.

OPERATION OF THE PUMP

  1. Make sure pump switch is on the “OFF” position.
  2. Connect portable plug to submersible pump outlet.
  3. Submerge pump in water.
  4. Turn pump switch to “ON” position.

The strainer is normally attached directly to the pump, but should be attached to the lower (suction) side of the foot-valve when suction hose is used. The foot-valve is not required, and should not be used when the pump is operated submerged. It should always be attached to the suction end of suction hose when pump is not operated submerged. Not more than 20 feet of suction hose should be used.

The pump is not self priming when operated unsubmerged; therefore, priming is required if it is to be so used. Priming may be accomplished by lowering the pump into the water until discharge starts and then raising the pump to the level desired. Priming may also be accomplished by removing the discharge hose and filling the pump and suction hose with water prior to starting the pump, the foot-valve holding the water until pumping starts.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

  1. Pump should not be used for pumping gas or oil.
  2. Be sure-pump controller handle is in the “OFF” position before plugging into or disconnecting from ships power supply.
  3. Do not operate the pump at any time without the suction strainer attached to the pump or hose.
  4. Be sure all pipe plugs are in and tight before using pump.
  5. After using pump be sure to drain intermediate and motor chamber of water immediately after flushing with fresh water by removing plugs. Never store pumps without first draining it after use.
  6. Never use the pump unless the ground wire is connected properly.
  7. Do not use the electric cable as a line for raising or lowering pump.
  8. Do not use the pump for pumping warm or hot water. Do not allow pump to continue running after discharge stops.
