OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
DECONTAMINATION STATION
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
- All contaminated personnel shall enter the decontamination station through specified routes and shall enter ONLY through the door marked DECONTAMINATION STATION ENTRANCE. Under no circumstances will he enter through the door marked Exit.
- Contaminated personnel will remove all clothing including socks and boots and deposit it in barrels or cans located near the entrance to the decontamination station. These containers shall be suitably marked.
- Dosimeters shall be removed and given to specified personnel at entrance of decontamination station.
- Personnel will then proceed through decontamination station following the appropriate arrows.
- Showers shall include soap and brushes for scrubbing. Personnel shall pay particular attention to the hair, nostrils, hands and feet while showering.
- A monitor shall be stationed at the exit from the shower. All personnel are to be monitored from head to foot for the presence of contamination. Showers shall be repeated until all contamination is removed.
- After contamination is removed personnel shall leave the Decontamination Station through door marked Exit.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
- Salt Water showers shall be monitored before use for the presence of contamination. If contamination exists notify the Radiological Safety Officer.
- Routes to and from decontamination station shall be followed exactly as marked by the arrows. This will eliminate any unnecessary spread of contamination.
- Wash all minor wounds immediately, under running water, while spreading the edges of the gash.
